Having just finished "The Cider House Rules" by John Irving I want to address a touch subject.
Abortion.
It is a tough issue to face.
And because of this, it is often NOT faced.
Americans go through school learning about the dangers of drugs, alcohol, and even "unsafe" sex.
However, the issue of abortion is hardly ever touched upon in schools. It's out there and it is real, and yet the general public knows next to nothing about the procedure, the emotional impact.
There are those that are pro-choice, and yet they have no idea how gruesome a process abortion is, nor have they ever met a mother who has mourned an unborn child she decided to have aborted.
Again, there are individuals that are pro-life for no other reason than that is the stance their family, friends, and church all take. They never step back to question; they never allow their minds to explore the gray areas.
Both of these circumstances are wrong, and should be avoided at all costs. The only way to make an educated and informed decision is to be...
wait for it....
Educated and informed.
There are plenty of websites out there that are dedicated bringing information about abortion to light.
Some of these exist as pro-life advocates, while others merely state the facts.
Here are a few places where you can educate yourself on the topic of abortion:
http://www.guttmacher.org/sections/abortion.php
This link will take you to a sit full of information on abortion-- facts and statistics from all over the world, including individual states.
http://www.abort73.com/
This site is pro-life advocate, however much of the information is presented with little to no bias, and the product of abortion can actually be seen. The video displaying this reality is not pretty, but it is important to understand. This site also contains testimonies of actual women and families who have had abortions and the emotional impact it has had upon them.
http://www.naral.org/
Clicking this link will take you to a pro-choice site offering information on government involvement and bills regarding abortion. There are also testimonies of women who had abortions and how it was a blessing to their lives to be able to make that choice.
http://www.abortion.com/
This site is a comprehensive list locations in the United States where it is possible to receive an abortion.
If you haven't done so, I highly recommend reading "The Cider House Rules."
Abortion plays a large role, and it is a stunning novel.
That's all I have to say on that for now.
